PIMS doctor faces suspension for filmed JUI-F chief during medical treatment

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) administration has suspended a doctor who uploaded a video of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman during his medical treatment.

The JUI-F leader was admitted to the hospital on April 28 after he complained of stomach-related issues and was briefly kept under observation as doctors carried out a number of tests before he was finally discharged from the hospital.

The next day, a video around 15 seconds in length, was uploaded on social media. The video of Fazl, in which he is seen lying on a hospital bed and receiving medical care by a female medic, drew a mixed response on social media by his followers and supporters of rival political parties.

Upon receiving complaints from the family and followers of the religious leader, the Pims management has suspended the doctor who uploaded the video, despite the binding ethical and legal responsibility of doctors to keep patients’ matters confidential, and apologised to Fazlur Rehman. A three-person committee has also been constituted to look into the matter.
