Dawn Leaks: PM Nawaz tasks close aides with easing tension occurred after ISPR s tweet

LAHORE – After Pakistan Army disapproved the government’s action on Dawn Leaks report, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the party bigwigs to settle issue between institutions by adopting non-confrontational approach, local media reported.

The prime minister on Sunday called a consultative meeting of his close aides apparently to design a strategy in order to defuse the situation.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shahbaz and Principle Secretary of PM Fawad Hasan Fawad attended the meeting, headed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at his Jati Umra residence in Raiwind.

The PML-N did not issue any official statement after the meeting, nor did any of the participants held media talk.

But sources and media reports suggested that the PML-N leaders discussed the situation created after the ISPR tweet on the matter.

Dawn news quoted sources as saying the prime minister tasked Dar and Chaudhry Nisar to engage the army and allay its reservations regarding actions taken so far in the light of the recommendations of the inquiry committee, while Shahbaz Sharif has been asked to assist the duo.

A meeting between the military and civilian leaderships is expected within the next 24 hours, sources added.

On the other hand, he prime minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz refused all such statements in her tweet.

She tweeted, “All statements being attributed to PM on media after the consultative meeting are incorrect. No one has been assigned any task by the PM”.
