ISLAMABAD – In a bid to thwart pre-poll rigging, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has barred political parties from ‘self-advertising’ through government development projects or via the use of public money.
According to a communique issued by ECP, there is a ‘total ban’ on inserting personal images, party logos or names on advertisements of government projects till the general elections 2018.
Besides prohibiting personal promotion till upcoming elections, the election regulator has also announced a decision to uproot name plates installed on projects completed after March 1st, 2018.
It was also directed by the commission that political figures should refrain from self-propagation during the inauguration of projects, warning that action will be taken against anyone found violating ECP’s order.
