LAHORE – Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif met former interior minister and disgruntled Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Chaudhry Nisar at the CM House on Monday.
According to well-placed sources, the two leaders discussed party matters and the current political situation of the country in the backdrop of graft cases against Sharif family and the visible rift between civil-military corridors.
The meeting lasted for 45 minutes and the former minister shared his reservations with Shehbaz, with PML-N president requesting him to “stay with the party”, Geo News reported.

Nisar, a political bigwig of ruling PML-N, is considered close to the younger Sharif and after the disqualification of former premier Nawaz Sharif, he has been vocal multiple times calling on the party leadership to exercise restraint and avoid collision with the state institutions, in a contradiction with party’s unannounced policy of confrontation and resistance.
Over the weekend, the legislator hinted at parting ways with the party if it becomes a family affair, referring to the enhanced role of Maryam Nawaz in steering the party’s narrative.
Nisar went a mile more and also announced that he would decide in the current week which platform he would contest upcoming Elections from, a harbinger of the assumption that he might run the race as an independent.

Earlier, last month, former Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed had declared that Nisar would not be awarded party ticket.
‘The PML-N will go to polls with its present narrative and Chaudhry Nisar, who is deadly against the party’s narrative, cannot contest the polls from the party platform,’ clarified Pervaiz Rasheed in strong-worded remarks.
Moreover, Nisar’s successor, Ahsan Iqbal had said that his future role will be decided by the party.
