PTI retains NA-108 as Abid Sher Ali loses in vote recount

FAISALABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Farrukh Habib retained the NA-108 seat of the National Assembly from Faisalabad after the recounting initiated on the request of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Abid Sher Ali, concluded.

As per the Form 47 issued by the returning officer after the recount, the PTI candidate received 112,029 votes while 110,828 votes were cast in favour of the firebrand PML-N leader.

The initial results announcement following the July 25 polls had put Habib’s vote count at 112,740 and Ali’s at 111,529, however, the recounting stirred joy among the loyalists of PTI who celebrated outside the RO’s office and distributed sweets.

Abid Sher Ali, a relative of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, served as the water and power minister in the previous government and had claimed that the electoral process was not fair.

His defeat at the hands of a young PTI leader had surprised the political analysts across the country, however, the recounting has now consolidated his position as a lawmaker, for which he would take oath in a next few days.
