Lal Masjid case: Ready to forgive Musharraf, says Abdul Aziz

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz has said that he is ready to forgive former military ruler Pervez Musharraf and all other figures for their involvement in the 2007 bloody siege of Lal Masjid.

Talking to the media on Tuesday, Abdul Aziz said he is in talks with his family members to convince them on pardoning Musharraf as an act of goodwill adding that the decision has been taken without any sort of pressure or deal. He said an announcement in this regard will be made soon in a press conference.

“I think Musharraf made a mistake. He is our Muslim brother … I say we take the first step and forgive him,” he said.

Earlier, a local court granted pre-arrest bail to Moulana Abdul Aziz against two surety bonds of Rs50,000 each.

Additional District & Sessions Judge Raja Asif Mehmood granted pre-arrest bail when Moulana Abdul Aziz appeared before the court.

On Monday, Aziz filed a pre-arrest bail request with the local court, the judge ordered SHO Aabpara Police Station to produce him before the court if he was in police custody. The court also asked police officials to submit the progress made in investigation of cases registered against Moualana Abdul Aziz.

The Aabpara Police had registered a case against Moulana Abdul Aziz under Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Amplifier Act and a separate case under Section 506/2 of the PPC.
