ISLAMABAD – Former Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid might be the next chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as he is among top contenders for the slot after Shaharyar Khan forwarded his resignation to the Prime Minister.
According to the Nation, while PCB Executive Committee Chairman Najam Sethi is the most likely candidate to be appointed to the board’s top post, Talat Mahmood, a close aid of Nawaz Sharif, is also one of the leading candidates for the post of PCB chairman.
Citing sources, the Nation said that Nawaz Sharif wants to appoint senior PMLN leader Pervaiz Rashid as PCB chairman after he was made to quit the information ministry over allegedly leaking information to a newspaper. The PM’s political secretary Asif Kirmani has also been lobbying for Pervaiz Rashid’s appointment in the cricket board.
Sources further mentioned that “After the successful conduct of two editions of the PSL, Sethi is eager to become PCB chairman but the situation of the country will prove very crucial in appointing the new PCB chairman.”
