Floods damage 362 schools in Punjab

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Punjab Interior Minister Shuja Khanzada on Monday said as many as 362 schools have been damaged by heavy rains and floods in parts of southern Punjab.

Khanzada, while talking to reporters, said that all schools would be reopened in Punjab on August 15 after summer holidays. Schools affected by floods are being repaired and would resume functioning with other schools, he announced.

The minister however added that local administration can extend holidays in these areas if situation would not be suitable to reopen schools.

Southern areas of province Punjab which include Layya, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rahim Yar Khan are seriously hit by deadly floods  this year and heavy losses to infrastructure and public properties have been reported.

Earlier more than 2,000 schools of Punjab were damaged by floods in year 2014.
