Electricity load-shedding to end by 2018: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD – A meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad reviewed progress on ongoing and future energy projects.

Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister called for utmost transparency in the execution of energy projects, adding that electricity load-shedding will be eliminated by the end of 2018, as per government’s promise.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the pace of work on the energy projects and said that the present government was effectively diversifying the energy mix of the country to overcome the energy shortfall.

He said that it was encouraging the cost-effective execution of all ongoing energy projects. He laid special emphasis on the progress of energy projects under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor and directed relevant officials to review the pace of work on these projects on regular basis.

Nawaz Sharif said the government was committed to providing sufficient and affordable electricity to consumers, enabling them to contribute to the socio-economic development of Pakistan.

The Meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Secretary Water and Power and other senior officials.
