MUMBAI – Bollywood star Rani Mukerji had recently found herself at the receiving end of extreme social media trolling when her weird comments on Me Too movement didn’t go down well with most of the netizens.
For those unaware, Rani Mukerji, along with Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Tabu, Taapsee Pannu and Anushka Sharma, was present at Rajeev Masand’s actresses roundtable chat. When they were asked about the Me Too movement.
To which Rani replied as, I think as a woman you have to be that power within yourself, you have to believe that you’re so powerful that if you ever come into a situation like that you have the courage to say ‘back off.’ I think you have to have the courage to be able to protect yourself. You have to take responsibility for your own self.”
While Rani was subjected to a lot of social media trolling, recently Kangana Ranaut, who is busy promoting her movie Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, was asked about her reaction to the Hichki star’s statement.
She stated that”People who need support, who need to be empowered, we must empower but agar Rani Laxmi Bai jaise ladkiyan agar humari societyhumein de sakti hai toh why not, unko discourage nahi karna chahiye. If they are strong women, we should not discourage women. I was 16-years-old when I filed my first FIR against sexual assault so there are people who can stand up for themselves, they shouldn’t be discouraged.”
When Ranaut was further asked about empowerment vis-à-vis children, she added: “As I said, empowerment who need, they should be empowered, who need. But, not necessarily everyone needs. Some people can give empowerment also. Some people are givers, the ones who can be encouraged to give strength, people who are working with NGOs.”
