LAHORE – In a bid to ensure the triumph of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’ de-facto leader, Maryam Nawaz, Hamza Shehbaz has been tasked to run the election campaign in NA-127 and PP-173 constituency of Lahore.
According to a party leader, Shehbaz Sharif’s son has been directed to ‘aggressively’ run Maryam’s campaign following which Hamza has assigned duties to party members of the union councils to toil hard for the victory of the former first daughter.
Speaking to party workers on Monday, Hamza expressed that he would himself monitor election campaign in his (NA-124) and other constituencies of the city, claiming that the PML-N would emerge victorious in the upcoming polls.
Hamza’s monitoring of Maryam’s campaign is interesting in the backdrop of September by-polls for NA-120 wherein Shehbaz Sharif’s son was allegedly sidelined by Maryam Nawaz following which he left the country and stayed in London during the entire campaign.

In the absence of Hamza, Maryam had not only taken control of 180-H Model Town party office – where Hamza used to monitor the PML-N by-election campaign in the province – but also formed her own team in Lahore.
Maryam Nawaz, a political neophyte, had emerged victorious as Kulsoom Nawaz had overpowered Dr Yasmin Rasheed of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, by a narrow margin though.
Maryam had decided to contest polls from NA-125 and NA-127, however, on Monday she sought retirement from NA-125 after she failed to withdraw her nomination papers in time; Waheed Alam Khan who had submitted PML-N ticket to the returning officer will now face Yasim Rashid in the constituency.
