ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Private Power and Infrastructure Board has approved two electricity projects of 660 megawatt at Thar coal.
The approval was accorded in PPIB meeting held in Islamabad with Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif in the chair.
Hub Power and Thai Power companies will establish electricity projects of 330 megawatt each.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Asif said the government is pursuing long term and medium term projects in view of growing electricity needs in the country.
Managing Director PPIB Shah Jahan Mirza briefed the board on current status of various ongoing power generation projects being handled by PPIB with particular emphasis on projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said after following international competitive bidding, Atlas Power was qualified to develop a 220MW R-LNG based IPP at Sheikhupura Punjab.
He said Thar has 175 billion tons of coal reserves.
