LAHORE – Palestinians presented the world with extreme courage and longing by performing the Arab folk dance, Dabke, which marked three months of the protest campaign ‘Great March of Return’. The campaign demanded the right for Palestinian people to return to their homes in Israel.
This courageous act was carried out at Gaza-Israel border knowing that the group could be victimized with tear gas or snipers.

Some of the dancers wore Keffiyeh scarves inspired by the late Palestinian resistance leader Yasser Arafat to protect themselves from tear gas shelling. However the smoke and the chaos did not stop the youth to back down. The creative protest is an example after all.
The Palestine Ministry of Health says that 131 Palestinians have been killed and more than 14,000 injured since the campaign started. Therefore the dance that was once a ritual of celebration is now an act of resistance.
