Mashal Khan’s murder was planned, JIT report reveals

ISLAMABAD – A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has revealed in its report that murder of Mashal Khan, a student of Abdul Wali Khan University, was planned.

The JIT stated that deceased Mashal used to raise voice against irregularities in the university that posed threat to a political group, Samaa reported.

It highlighted that he was killed on fake allegations as no evidence regarding blasphemy was found during the probe.

The report mentioned that every accused was employed on the basis of “recommendations” even when they were ineligible for the post.

A group provoked the mob against Khan on the pretext of blasphemy, it further stated.

The report further stated that the victim had a conversation with the hostel warden before he was tortured.

“Mashal assured the angry mob that he was a Muslim, recited Kalma before them and pleaded them to shift him to a hospital,” the report mentioned.

The JIT’s report further states that use of drugs, weapons and exploitation of students is normal in the varsity.

The report also raised questions on the role of law enforcement agencies in the incident.
