ISLAMABAD – A District and Sessions Court on Friday ordered registration of an FIR against Jang Media Group’s owner Mir Shakilur Rehman and Geo television anchors Najam Sethi and Hamid Mir.
The order has been passed for airing baseless contents against former army chief General Raheel Sharif regarding allotment of a plot.
On an application filed by an Allama Shoaib under 22-A, District and Sessions Judge Anwar Ali Khan gave the order.
Arguing on the application, the applicant’s counsel Shan Asghar said the journalists claimed in their talk shows on January 25 that Gen Raheel got the land wrongfully allotted to him.
‘The anchors tried to damage Gen Raheel’s career and prestige and contended that the former army chief was properly allotted the land by the government’ pleaded Shan Asghar.
He requested the court to register an FIR against the suspects to which the court ordered SHO (Station House Officer) Gulberg police station to register a case.
The allotment of 90 acres of prime land to the former chief of army staff (COAS) General (r) Raheel Sharif became controversial after political analysts dubbed it unfair for the popular general to receive the land days after the APS carnage.
However, army’s media wing confirmed that the allotment was not of an extraordinary type as it was a routine practice and distribution of lands was directly carried out by the General Headquarters, instead of government.
