Notorious Lyari gang war leader Zikri killed in police encounter

KARACHI – Police on Thursday claimed to have killed a most wanted notorious leader of the Lyari gang war, Ghaffar Zikri, during an operation in the city.

A three-year old boy, who identified as the son of Zikri, and an accomplice Chota Zahird were also shot dead in the cross fire between the raiding party and the gang leaders.

Zikri’s three-year-old son and an accomplice, Chota Zahid, were also killed in the crossfire between the gang leaders and police in Lyari’s Ali Muhammad area.

DIG South Javed Alam Odho said that the intelligence-based operation was conducted along with law enforcement agencies in Lyari’s Ali Muhammad area, adding that two officials were injured in the operation which continued for 90 minutes.

The police officer said that police opened fired when gangsters targeted police and hurled hand grenades.

Talking about the killing of a minor in the shootout said that Zikri was using his son as his shield to flee the scene.

A search operation is being conducted in various areas of the lyari.

Zikri and his accomplice were wanted to security officials in several cases related to killing, extortion, kidnapping, etc. He had a head money of Rs3 million.
