ISLAMABAD – An accountability court on Tuesday is hearing three corruption references filed by the National Accountability Burea against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other family members.
Accountability Judge Mohammad Bashir is conducting the hearing, while Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz have not appeared before the court as they are going to Londo after getting the exemption from appearance. Maryam’s husband, Captian (retd) Safdar has reached the court.
Nawaz’s counsel Advocate Khawaja Harris and children’s counsel Amjad Pervez Bhatti are present in the court.
Legal representative Zafir Khan Tareen has appeared on behalf of Nawaz and Maryam is being represented by Jahangir Jadoon.
The court has summoned three prosecution witnesses to record their statements, while one witness Tayyab Ahmad, a bank official, has recorded his statement to the court.
Ahmed revealed that Maryam had received a cheque of Rs12 million on June 13, 2015, Rs28.8 million on November 15, 2015 and Rs19.5 million on August 14, 2016, Geo news reported.
Meanwhile, Safdar has also submitted an application to the court seeking exemption from the appearance for 15 days.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday left for London on a five-day visit to see his ailing wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz today (Tuesday).
Earlier, the accountability court on Monday approved a plea filed by former prime minister seeking change in time period for exemption from appearance in the court, while rejected the same plea of his daughter Maryam Nawaz.

The accountability court is hearing three references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Nawaz and his family regarding London flats, Azizia Steel Mills and other companies in the backdrop of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Panama Papers case.
Nawaz and his two sons, Hussain and Hasan, have been made accused in all three references whereas Maryam and her husband MNA Capt (retd) Safdar are accused in one case regarding London properties.
