Pakistan Army sets up onion frying plant in Awaran to boost Balochistan economy

QUETTA – People in south Balochistan are reaping the fruit of an onion frying plant, set up recently by authorities from provincial government and the army in a show of national commitment to promote economic activities in the country’s largest province.

The first batch of a high-quality finished product, called ‘Awaran Fried Onion’, has hit the market across the southern Pakistani province.

Pakistan Army had helped the local population construct the plant in the far-flung area of Awaran to facilitate the local farmers in transforming their crop into finished edible product for the market.

Farmers in Awaran have thanked the Pakistan Army for providing them with an opportunity to boost their produce and earn profits the crop.

Balochistan is a big producer of onion. About one million tonnes of onion can be harvested every year in the province. Last year 0.9 million tonnes of onion was produced.
