COMSTECH s OIC Summit on Science, Technology postponed

ISLAMABAD (APP) – The scheduled Mid-November-2015, first ever Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit on Science and Technology has been postponed due to non availability of different heads of states, a top official said.

Coordinator General COMSTECH, Dr Shaukat Hameed Khan on Thursday confirmed that over a dozen heads of state were expected to attend OIC Summit but due to their pre engagements they would not available and due to the reason the proposed summit postponed.

Talking to APP, Dr Shaukat informed that he had discussed the participation of Heads of States with the respective envoys of those countries in Islamabad to participate in the event jointly organized by the Government and the COMSTECH.

The OIC Standing Committee on Science and Technology (COMSTECH) had prepared a major document for 57 member countries elaborating programs and priority areas in science and technology as well as joint programs for next 10 years, he said.

The Coordinator General COMSTECH said he had held meetings with ambassadors of 25 OIC countries in successive groups during last two months and discussed with them agenda of the meetings.

They were encouraged to participate and share not only fund for future research but also for exchange of manpower, technology and institutional facilities, he added.

All efforts are being made to conduct the summit and soon the next schedule would be announced as it was the most important event to promote innovations in the field of science and technology, he maintained.
