MUMBAI (Web Desk) – Veteran Bollywood actor Om Puri who allegedly hurled insulting remarks towards Indian soldiers, has finally apologised to angry Indians adding that he deserved to be punished by military courts.
Puri, who was invited for a talk show debate on Hindi film producers’ ban on Pakistani actors had said: “Did anybody force them (the soldiers) to join the army?” citing the killing of soldiers in Uri attack.
Following the remarks, zealot groups took aim at the Bollywood star. A lawyer on Tuesday went a mile more and filed a police complaint against him.
Sensing the heat, the screen idol has finally apologised to the nation urging military to court-martial him.
“I am guilty and I deserve a punishment. I want to be tried by the army, I should be court-martialled. I want a constructive punishment,” Puri said.
“The army should teach me how to use weapons and send me on the same site where those brave men sacrificed themselves for the country. I don’t want to be forgiven. I am pleading to the nation I want to be punished.” the 65-year-old screen idol added.
It is worth mentioning that Om himself acted in Anti-Pakistan films in the past but he denounced propaganda films on both sides of border and vowed not to act in any Anti-Pakistan film in future. His recent Lollywood flick “Actor in Law” received much applause from the audience.
