NAB chief rejects recommendations to freeze Sharif family s assets

ISLAMABAD – The Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry rejected recommendations to freeze assets belonging to members of the Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, here on Tuesday.

NAb chief also rejected the recommendation to add the names of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, and Dar to the Exit Control List (ECL), according to a report by Geo News.

As per reports, NAB offices in Lahore and Rawalpindi had prepared and forwarded references against members of the Sharif family and Dar on Friday, requesting their assets be frozen and placing their names on ECL.

However, the accountability watchdog head has rejected the recommendations and the same has been conveyed to Director General (DG) NAB Lahore Saleem Shehzad.

It bears mentioning that besides disqualifying Nawaz Sharif as a member of National Assembly, the Supreme Court in its Panama Papers case verdict on July 28 had ordered filing references against members of Sharif family including Ishaq Dar.

A deadline of six weeks was set for filing the references whereas a total six-months time period was allowed by the top court for proceedings.

Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk had also appointed Justice Ijazul Ahsan as a monitoring judge to supervise the implementation of apex court’s order.

The graft buster had also summoned members of Sharif family twice at its Lahore headquarter but they did not show up citing the review petitions filed in supreme court.
