NEW DELHI – Indian star actor Om Puri passed away at the age of 66 here on Friday morning.
According to initial reports, Om Puri suffered a cardiac arrest which proved fatal.
The legendary star shot to fame after his role as police officer in film A.K 47 although he kicked off his career as early as 1976. His notable films include Sadgati, East is East, Lakshya, Yaariyan, Shoot on Sight, Dhol, Kurbaan and Delhi 6.
Apart from Bollywood, he appeared in Hollywood, and even British films including City of Joy, Wolf, The Ghost and the Darkness.
Om had a special association with Pakistan as well.
He recently acted in Pakistani film ‘Actor in Law’ alongside Pakistani heartthrob Fahad Mustafa and the dazzling Mehwish Hayat. He also emphasised the need for better and stronger ties between quintessential rivals Pakistan and India amid strained ties.
As soon as the news of Om’s death went viral, showbiz giants took to social media platforms to mourn his death. Indian prime minister Narendra Modi also condoled the sudden demise of veteran performer.
