LAHORE (Staff Report) – Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the recent tragic train accident near Wazirabad is likely to submit its report by Thursday.
Addressing a news conference in Lahore on Monday, he said that according to the Railways own investigation, Chanawan Bridge was totally fit for the railways operation.
He said that that bridge was never included in the list of one hundred fifty nine bridges who needed or still need the rehabilitation process.
He said that the condition of rail track at the spot of accident was also perfect for rail traffic and Pakistan Express had passed the same bridge just one hour and fifteen minutes before the accident.
He said that no railway bridge is in dangerous condition.
Saad said over-speeding of the train has been established.
He said that the probable technical faults in the engine are also being probed.
He termed all the media reports about the Initial Reports and probable causes of this accident, as baseless. He requested the media to play their role positively and report facts.
