Is Amjad Sabri s family being threatened to leave Pakistan?

KARACHI – The family of slain Pakistani qawwal Amjad Sabri is not moving out of the country, his brother clarified on Wednesday while denying that the family was receiving threats to their life.

Quashing the rumors circulating in the media, Sarwat Sabri, brother of the slain singer, said: “One day is fixed for death and we do not fear it.”

“We wish we get martyred,” he furthers said while wishing that his brother’s murderers were caught and brought to justice soon.

Sabri was gunned down in Karachi on June 22. His murder shocked fans in Pakistan and across the world immensely.

Qari Saifullah Mehsud, an alleged spokesperson for the TTP Hakimullah Mehsud group, accepted responsibility for the attack.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the immediate family of Amjad Sabri has decided to move out of Pakistan.

Renowned journalist Hassan Nisar claimed that the immediate family of Amjad Sabri will move to UAE, Canada or USA after receiving threats from unnamed groups who were pressurizing them to stop pursuing justice in the singer’s murder case.

It has also been reported that the family has returned a Rs. 20 million check given by Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan.

Earlier, Sabri and an associate were travelling in a car in Liaquatabad 10 area when unidentified gunmen fired at their vehicle, critically injuring the renowned singer. The two were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital immediately, where Sabri succumbed to his injuries.

Amjad Sabri was one of the country’s finest qawwals, known for his soul-stirring renditions of mystical Sufi poetry.

Law enforcement agencies have initiated a probe to determine the possible motive behind the murder of Sabri; however, no major breakthrough in this regard has yet been made.
