PM Nawaz for placing Rewaj Act before upcoming NA session to mainstream tribal areas

ISLAMABAD – The Tribal Rewaj Act 2017 would usher a new era of peace, progress and prosperity besides paving way for the mainstreaming of the tribal areas, stated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

According to a statement issued by PM House,  the prime minister has directed Law Minister Zahid Hamid to present the Tribal Areas Rewaj Act 2017 and the consequential amendments before the upcoming session of the National Assembly for consideration.

This would be a major step forward in fulfilling the government’s commitment with the people of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), PM added.

The points of the Act have been chalked out following the recommendations of the FATA Reforms Committee, already endorsed by the federal cabinet.

In March this year, All Fata Political Parties Alliance had rejected replacement of the Frontier Crimes Regulation with Rewaj Act and urged the government to merge the Federally Administered Tribal Areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before 2018 otherwise the alliance would launch a protest movement in this regard.
