ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Friday that he hoped the powerful rulers will be convicted of corruption and money laundering in the Panamagate case.
Addressing’Leaders in Islamabad’ moot in capital, he stated that the Panama case verdict will be a defining moment in the history of Pakistan.
Imran regretted that throughout history, the judiciary sided with the powerful people but hoped that it would be different this time. The legislator reiterated that he hoped the verdict of the case will be out this week.
When asked about his comments regarding the current state of cricket affairs in Pakistan, Imran said he was focused more on the ‘Panama pitch’ at the moment.
“Most people join politics to make money, but I did so to change the system. I intended to become PM to bring stability in the institutions and ensure justified distribution of resources in the country,” he said.
Responding to a question, Imran claimed that his party always remained within the limits of the constitution.
“We firstly took to streets to demand a probe into the rigging in 2013 elections and then to demand an inquiry of the offshore wealth as exposed by Panama Papers,” PTI supremo noted.
Khan also took aim at the government for lying about drone attacks, claiming the government gave go-ahead regarding airstrikes against its own people.
“Musharraf’s government was responsible for allowing these drone attacks,” he added.
The cricketer-turned politician also expressed his viewpoint regarding the Afghan Jihad in 80’s and dubbed it Pakistan’s biggest mistake.
“We made a big mistake in the 80s by entering into the jihad against the Soviets. That left Pakistan with militants, militant groups, we had Kalashnikov’s flooded and we had drugs which could be used to finance the war,” said Imran Khan.
The law-maker also derided US president Donald Trump in the purview of recent assault on Syrian airbase and maintained that he was worse than what he had expected.
