WASHINGTON (Web Desk) – The United States on Saturday welcomed the meeting between the foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan, saying the decision to resume dialogue was encouraging.
“We certainly were encouraged that they (India and Pakistan) decided to resume dialogue,” said US State Department spokesperson Marie Harf while addressing reporters during the daily briefing.
The US “believes that both India and Pakistan stand to benefit from practical cooperation and an improved relationship”.
She said improved ties between the two sides would be good for regional peace and stability.
The US statement came days after Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar had made an official two-day visit to Islamabad, during which he held separate meetings with his Pakistani counterpart and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
