LOWER DIR (Staff Report) – Jamaat-e-Islami has won by-poll to PK-95 (Lower Dir), according to unofficial results.
In all, Jamaat’s winning candidate Aizazul Mulk secured 18,798 votes from a total of 85 polling stations.
Awami National Party’s Bahadur Khan stood second with 16,822 votes.
Polling got underway in the by-election amid tight security arrangements Thursday morning.
The district administration had announced a public holiday in the district.
The PK-95 constituency, which has more than 140,000 registered voters, fell vacant after election of Sirajul Haq as senator.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has announced if reports involving women voters being barred from voting surfaced, the bye-election would be declared null and void.
It may be mentioned here that of the total 140,000 registered votes in the constituency, only 38 percent are women voters.
