Imran Khan nominates ex-sports minister Mehmood Khan as KP CM

ISLAMABAD – The chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan has nominated Mehmood Khan as Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Wednesday.

The rumours ended as the much-awaited announcement came after Imran Khan said that he would consider a young politician for the position of chief minister in Punjab.

Imran announced his decision during his meeting with senior PTI leaders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to sources, former chief minister Pervez Khattak suggested Mehmood Khan’s name for the slot.

Mehmood was elected as the member of the provincial assembly from PK-9 Swat in 2013 and 2018 general elections. He is the PTI Malakand Division president.

PTI media manager Iftikhar Durrani also confirmed the news.

Mahmoood Khan hails from Swat and has served as minister for sports, culture and tourism in the previous tenure of PTI. He was also given the portfolio of KP home minister but was later removed from the post.

Born in Matta Tehsil of Swat in 1972, Khan got his early education from Government Primary School Matta and completed his matriculation from Peshawar Public School. He did his masters in agriculture from the Agriculture University of Peshawar.

He has also served as Nazim Union Council Khariri of Tehsil Matta from 2007 to 2012.

It is to be mentioned here that in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, the ECP received results of 96 out of total 97 seats out of which PTI took 66 seats while MMA, ANP, PML-N, and PPP won on 10, six, five, and four seats respectively.
