Nawaz denounces accountability in show of support for Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD – Former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif denounced the accountability procedure currently in place in the country, referring to the treatment meted out to his brother, Shehbaz Sharif.

In a brief interaction with newsmen outside the accountability court on Tuesday, the former premier expressed that if it was the accountability, he decries it.

‘Even the foreigners lavished praise on Shehbaz Sharif as no one could point fingers due to his uprightness,’ said the former lawmaker.

Sharif, who appeared before the judge Arshad Malick in the Al-Azizia reference, expressed that a few of the individuals in the incumbent regimes hurled allegations against the former chief minister Punjab.

Those who alleged Shehbaz suffered a pratfall when the Chines firm clarified the situation, Sharif said in a reference to the allegations regarding the corruption in Multan Metro Bus project.

He highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government awarded contract to a company which was denied a project in Punjab as it was blacklisted.

‘NAB should investigate as to why the KPK government awarded a contract to a blacklisted company,’ Nawaz wondered.

He expressed the displeasure at the ‘type of treatment’ meted out to Shehbaz Sharif – who is in NAB’s custody in the Ashiana-i-Iqbal housing scam.

The former chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif was detained after he appeared before the Lahore bureau of the anti-corruption body.

The younger Sharif would appear before the court on October 16th. During the last hearing, the court had remanded Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif in the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) custody for ten days for interrogation.
