KARACHI – Senior politician and former National Assembly speaker Illahi Bux Soomro passed away on Wednesday.
Family sources report that Soomro died from cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Karachi, where he had been admitted due to health concerns.
His body will be transported to his ancestral village, Jacobabad, for funeral prayers.
Soomro served as the 16th speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan and hailed from an influential political family in Sindh.
Throughout his career, he held various federal ministries, including the Ministry of Industries and Production, Ministry of Housing & Works, Ministry of Defence Production, Ministry of IT, Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, and Ministry of Water and Power.
Illahi Bux Soomro was known as one of the few politicians who maintained close relationships with the presidents and prime ministers of Pakistan.
