Search continues for recovery of 3 avalanche-hit tourists in Hunza

GILGIT BALTISTAN – The search operation which started on Monday for the recovery of three missing persons who were lost in a mudslide and snow avalanche in Ultar Nallah area of Hunza district continued on the second day as well.

Rescue teams and locals of Karimabad sprung into action soon after the persons went missing, however, they are apprehensive that the tourists might have died after being buried under stones.

According to the police, when a snow avalanche from Ultar Glacier hit Karimabad five tourists were on the slopes, however, two of them managed to escape.

The tourists have been identified as Shani from Lahore and Syed Anwar and Wajid from Altit.

What added insult to the injury of locals is the fact that dark clouds of dust covered Karimabad after the avalanche, creating panic among local and foreign tourists.
