FIA unveils first cybercrime reporting website in Sindh

KARACHI – The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Sindh chapter has become the first in launching a complaint reporting web portal related to cybercrimes and harassment in order to facilitate the victims.

Sindh FIA director Dr Amir Ahmed Sheikh during a press briefing on Tuesday announced the launch of the website (www.fiacybercrimesindh.com.pk). Sheikh is of the view that the online system will specially facilitate women, girls and children, who are frequent victims of harassment, as they will not be required to go to a reporting center physically for registering a complaint.

He urged the public of the entire province to report the cybercrime freely instead of remaining silence on the crime. He said that cooperation will help FIA to end such crimes.

The FIA director explaining the features of the website said that the user can file complaint in Urdu, English and Sindhi languages, adding that the identity of the complainant will be protected.

After registering a complaint, the user will receive a confirmation message on the given cell phone number, he said, adding that the staff of cyber crime circle will contact the victim within 48 hours.

The official informed the media that the cybercrime circle received 2019 complaints in previous year 2017 and out of which 1,592 complaints were related to harassment, blackmailing and defamation through social media.

He said that there are approximately 150 million users of cell phones in Pakistan, adding that now most of the business and interactions were made using social media in the age of virtual world. He added that the virtual space was also used by miscreants for their purposes.
