Is judiciary a political party? Ahsan Iqbal takes on CJP over remarks against Punjab govt

ISLAMABAD – Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday hit back at top judiciary for remarks against the Punjab government, asking if it was a political party.

The interior minister made a sizzling tweet following the comments of Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar in a case regarding setting up water treatment plant on Friday.

At the supreme court’s Lahore Registry, the chief justice remarked that government of Punjab did nothing in ten years while hearing a suo motu case regarding the drainage of polluted water into rivers and canals.

Iqbal in his tweet said, “Hon CJ! It is for the people of Punjab to judge performance in the coming elections”.

He added that how the chief justice can make such statements at a time when upcoming general elections 2018 are just around the corner. He further said, “Is judiciary a political party?”.

The interior minister said that political rivals of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), including Imran Khan and Asif Ali Zardari can make such statements.

He concluded, “Politicization of judiciary will be our collective loss”.
