Pakistan s army chief named among World s Most Powerful People 2018 by Forbes

NEW YORK – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been named among the World’s Most Powerful People in an international ranking issued by Forbes, an American business magazine.

Pakistan’s top general has been ranked as the 68th most powerful person in the world on a list features 75 personalities out of 7.5 billion humans on the planet. There are 17 new names on the list this year, also including Mohammed Bin Salman Al Saud.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has managed to get the top spot in the list, while he is followed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump at second and third position respectively.

“Although the president is his boss on paper, Pakistan’s chief of army staff is de facto the most powerful person in the nuclear armed state,” says Forbes about Bajwa.

“Javed Bajwa joins the world’s most powerful at a time when the rift between India and Pakistan is improving, partly thanks to his efforts”.

“He has a difficult task of keeping peace in the U.S. ally state where terrorist groups are present, while managing a complex relationship with India,” it said, adding, “Two years into his tenure as the head of the world’s sixth largest Army, Bajwa has established himself as a mediator and proponent of democracy”.

The magazine also said he [Bajwa] brokered a peace with the angry crowd of Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistan that resulted in the resignation of the law minister Zahid Hamid.
