Rs 300 bln allocated for new power plants: PM

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif laid foundation stone of 1223 megawatt power project at Balloki on Tuesday.

The plant which will start its generation from 2017 will provide cheaper electricity to public and also generate new job opportunities for the industrial and agricultural development.

The Balloki Power Plant will work with the sixty one point six three percent working capacity which is higher than earlier power plants.

The cost of generation of per megawatts from this plant will be four lac, sixty nine thousand dollars, which is lower than other power plants.

A total amount of thirty eight point six billion rupees will be saved in connection with the construction cost of this plant, while an amount of five point eight billion rupees from fuel expenditures.

Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana, Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Information Minister Senator Pervez Rashid among other notables are taking part in the foundation-laying ceremony, currently in progress.

Addressing on the occasion, Prime Minister said that it is for the first time in country’s history that the grand savings are being secured regarding the setting up of new power projects, which is the proof of government’s sincerity and transparency in its working.

He said that due to transparent international bidding and tender process by the government, the foreign power companies showed great confidence and gave low cost estimates for setting up of new projects.

The Prime Minister said that a total of one hundred ten billion rupees have been saved in setting up just three new power projects.

He said that three hundred billion rupees have been allocated for new power plants.
