KANNUR – A 52-year-old worker of ruling left-wing party, CPM was hacked to death ton Monday morning by unidentified men in Kerala’s Kannur.
Mohanan K, CPM’s local committee leader, was attacked at his toddy shop by four to five men in a busy market area. Another worker, Ashokan, was also injured, NDTV said quoting policeman.
According to police sources, “the attackers were masked men and the attack is of a political nature.”
CPI(M) has alleged that BJP workers were behind the attack and have called for a strike in the district tomorrow.
Kannur has witnessed series of attacks on political workers since the Left government came to power in May. Over 300 cases of political violence have been reported in Kannur since May.
The Opposition has accused the Modi administration of not taking against the growing political violence in the state.
“There have been 70 murders and many incidents of political attacks and violence since the CPM government came to power in May. It shocks me and I fail to understand why the government is not doing anything or even calling for an all-party meeting,” senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala had said last month.
