Pakistan acquires two maritime patrol vessels from China

ISLAMABAD – Two maritime patrol vessels built in China for Pakistan Maritime security agency, PMSS Hingol and PMSS Basol, were commissioned at an impressive ceremony at Guangzhou on Thursday.

Secretary Defense Zameer ul Hassan who was chief guest on the occasion appreciated Pakistan Maritime Security Agency and other stakeholders involved in the project for successful completion of first two ships. He expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the project.

He said that addition of these ships in PMSA surface fleet squadron will enhance the agency’s capabilities at sea.

Earlier, the PMSA DG highlighted the requirement of a stronger Maritime Security Agency in the overall security environment, especially in the wake of CPEC project. The construction of six maritime patrol ships was approved by ECNEC in December 2014.

The construction of four ships commenced in November 2015 at China and last two ships are being built in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.
