PIA starts flight operation to Barcelona

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has resumed its flight operation to Barcelona after gap of nearly two years.

“The first flight left for the Spanish city via Paris from Benazir Bhutto International Airport this morning”, PIA spokesperson announced on Monday.

PIA will operate two weekly flights to Barcelona, one each from Islamabad and Lahore, operating on Sundays and Tuesdays.

Due to the tragic PK-661 plane crash of December 7, 2016, all festivities planned earlier for the launch of this flight were cancelled.

Last month, PIA CEO Bernd Hildenbrand announced that the airline was looking to increase its fleet size to 60 aircraft by 2020 and start flights to Barcelona, Leipzig, Salalah and Bangkok.

“PIA is targeting to have a fleet of 60 aircraft by 2020,” said Hildenbrand, while speaking at a weekly meeting in Rotari Club Karachi. “In addition to increasing domestic flights, PIA is planning to increase its flights to Paris, New York, Kuala Lumpur, Jeddah, Beijing and Toronto while starting new flights to Barcelona, Leipzig, Salalah and Bangkok,” he added.
