Asif Zardari criticises Khawaja Saad Rafique s arrest

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party (Parliamentarians) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday criticized the arrest of PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafiq and his brother Salman Rafique.

In a statement issued here, Asif Zardari alleged that the government was being exposed by the arrest of political leaders.

Asif Zardari claimed that no government could strengthen by arresting its opponents.

Spokesman of Asif Zardari, Amir Fida Paracha said the PPP desired that every government should complete its tenure, which was imperative for strengthening the parliamentary system. He alleged that the current government did not want to strengthen the parliament.

He was of the opinion that political victimization would not weaken the political leaders and parties. He claimed the country was passing through an economic crisis and masses were perturbed due to inflation and unemployment.

The government was busy in political victimization of the leaders to divert the attention of the people, he alleged.

Earlier today, the anti-corruption watchdog arrested Khawaja Saad Rafique along with his brother Salman Rafique on Tuesday.

The duo appeared before the Lahore High Court to seek extension in the interim bails, however, the plea was rejected by the court.

Following the dismissal of the request, a NAB team took the duo in custody.

A NAB spokesperson said the PML-N leaders were arrested after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected their request for an extension in their pre-arrest bail in the case pertaining to the housing society scam.

“The court’s decision confirmed substantive evidence against NAB suspects,” the spokesperson added.
