ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court decided in favour of Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui over the issue of Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) convenorship, inflicting a blow on senior party leader Farooq Sattar.
The high court had reserved the verdict on April 17th which was announced on Monday by Justice Aamir Farooq Kiyani, turning down the plea of Farooq Sattar.
The issue of convenorship surfaced earlier this year when Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was appointed as the convener of embattled MQM-P by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Sattar was irked by the dismissal, following which he moved Islamabad High Court and temporarily got a decision in his favour.

However, the Islamabad High Court has now upheld the decision of Election Commission of Pakistan, appointing Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui as the convener of MQM-P.
During the hearing, Babar Sattar appeared before the court on behalf of Dr Sattar while Barrister Farough Naseem represented MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.
Dr Sattar’s counsel had argued before the court that the ECP did not have the jurisdiction to interfere in a political party’s internal affairs. He also cited the registration of MQM-P under Dr Farooq’s name, claiming that the polls watchdog did not have the authority to hear cases by another person who claims to be the party convener.
After the decision, Faisal Sabzwari expressed that all the party workers were now bound to work under the chair of Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.
