BANNU – A policeman was martyred while 13 others were left injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast at Bannu’s General Bus Stand on Friday.
According to police, the blast targetted the law enforcers as the remote-controlled bomb went off near a police van.
Sources claim that the device was fitted inside a motorcycle and the blast was so severe that the car windows of nearby vehicles were left shattered.
The injured included citizens and policemen who were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital Bannu, while a heavy contingent of police reached the site and launched investigations.
The Bannu District in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is located close to North Waziristan Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and incidents of security personnel being targetted have been recently reported.
In April, one security official was martyred while three others were injured in an explosion in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan Agency.
