LONDON (Web Desk) – Brahamdagh Bugti, the leader of Baloch Republican Party who lives an exiled life in Switzerland and is accused of armed struggle in Balochistan, has said that he is ready to give up insurgency and hold peace talks with someone ‘who has authority’ to offer something to Baloch nation.
In an interview with BBC, Bugti confirmed that Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and Federal Minister General (retd.) Abdul Qadir Baloch have met with him in Geneva to know his opinion about proposed peace dialogue at Balochistan issue.
“Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has no authority to make any decision about Balochistan and nobody from Pakistan military has so far approached me for talks,” he said.
He went on to say that none Baloch leader ever refused to hold dialogue with Pakistani government including his grandfather Akbar Bugti. But we want to hold talks with someone authoritative only, he added.
When asked about details of his meeting with Balochistan CM and Pakistani Minister, Brahamdagh Bugti said he has told the two leader that if Pakistani military has changed mind about operation in Balochistan and they want to resolve the issue through political dialogue, we are also ready for talks in that case.
Earlier in an interview in August this year, Bugti had hinted at surrendering his struggle for freedom of Balochistan, saying that he was ready to become part of dialogue process for resolving issues of Balochistan.
He said, “ if this is the demand of people of Balochistan, we are ready for that. He said we are political people and we believe in dialogue. The problems of Balochistan province from the last 15 years are the same.”
To a question for holding a meeting with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, he said he is willing to meet him.
It is pertinent to mention here that PML-N leader from Balochistan Sanaullah Zahri had also held meetings with Baloch leader in London in August.
The statement was welcomed by Pakistan’s civilian leadership and Balochistan government which showed willingness in talks with all Baloch leaders including Barahmdagh.
