Fresh banknotes worth Rs161 billion released ahead of Eidul Azha

KARACHI – As Eidul Azha is approaching, the State Bank of Pakistan has issued new currency bills worth Rs161 billion.

According to the SBP spokesman, all 16 field offices of the State Bank have been issuing fresh notes to the general public and several commercial banks to meet the demand on the occasion of the religious festival.

Out of total 161 billion rupees, Rs20 billion lower denomination notes –up to Rs 100– and Rs141 billion higher denomination banknotes –Rs500 and above– have been released.

The SBP has directed all commercial banks to ensure the presence of fresh currency bills at all of their ATMs during the Eid days.

It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that Rs116 billion fresh banknotes were issued by the State Bank on Eidul Azha last year.
