LAHORE – After Kulbhushan Jadhav’s death sentence, India has started using delaying tactics in the release of Pakistani women despite completion of their sentence.
Two Pakistani women named Fatima and Mumtaz along with a 10-year old kid Hina have been released from India’s Amritsar jail after spending a decade in prison.
But they could not be repatriated to Pakistan due to the lack of travel documents.
Now, India has refused to release about a dozen Pakistani prisoners, hours after Pakistan sentenced Indian naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav to death for espionage and subversive activities.
Back in 2006, two Pakistani women, Fatima and Mumtaz, were travelling to Pakistan along with their mother in Samjhouta train when they were arrested at Attari railway station in India for allegedly carrying narcotics.
After trial, the Indian court had then pronounced ten years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Indian Rs 400,000.
Their journey added difficulties when their mother passed away just after the court orders. At the time of arrest, Fatima was pregnant and had delivered a girl, Hina, in jail.
