LARKANA – At least eight people have died while over a dozen are still missing after a boat carrying devotees capsized in Indus River.
The boat capsized on Friday night in the River Indus, some 10 kilometres away from Dokri area in Sindh’s Larkana district.
So far rescuers have been able to pull out eight bodies from the river while 20 people have been rescued. Search teams were looking for more survivors.
Larkana police said that 30 people – including women and children – were en route in the boat from Naushero Feroze to the shrine of Pir Muhban Shah in Larkana.
“Initial information indicates that the boat sank because it was carrying more people than its limit. The boat tilted and the people fell into the water,” a police official said.
