LAHORE – Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, on Monday, expressed deep sorrow and grief at the demise of prominent lawyer Asma Jahangir.
The former premier, his daughter and other leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) reached the residence of the deceased human activist and extended their heartfelt condolences to members of the grieved family. They also hailed her services for restoration of democracy, freedom of judiciary and rights of minorities and women.
Talking to media, Maryam said that the demise of Asma Jahangir was an irreparable loss, adding that she raised voice against oppression.
Pakistan’s prominent human rights lawyer Asma Jahangir took her last breath at the age of 66 on Sunday after suffering from a brain hemorrhage in Lahore.
Jahangir was the first woman to become president of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, besides heading the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

Her funeral prayer will be offered on February 13 (Tuesday), a family source said. The prayers will be offered at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium at 2pm.
