SHARJAH (Muhammad Farooq) – The Sharjah International Book Fair has broken the record for the number of books displayed with 1.5 million titles, available in 210 languages.
For the first time in the history of Sharjah, 1547 publishers joined the book fair, Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) Chairman Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri told Daily Pakistan.
Al Ameri said: “The Sharjah International Book Fair was first launched in 1982 in line with the directives of the Ruler of Sharjah. The fair, which continues its annual editions, still achieves success after success.
“The book fair is spreading ideas and knowledge through books.”
The Sharjah International Book Fair continues to gain in popularity, inspired by the vision of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qaismi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
This is a record breaking year for the 34th edition, SIBF is witnessing the participation of 1547 publishing houses from 64 countries, including nine countries taking part for the first time, namely Poland, Peru and Ghana, Albania, Argentina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Magnolia, and Serbia.
Next year’s SIBF will be bigger and better, said Al Ameri adding that the number of publishers will be increased more than 20%.
This year feedback from visitor is very good and 40 to 50 thousand peoples are visiting daily, he told Daily Pakistan.
SIBF will continue till November 14, 2015.
