Young doctors protest ended after police intervention

LAHORE – Young Doctors Association’s (YDA) sit-in in Lahore ended on Saturday after high-level officials of Punjab police reached the spot and asked the vexed doctors and nurses to wind up the protest.

Scores of Punjab police personnel’s including DIG operations Dr Haider Ashraf and CCPO Ameen Wains arrived at the Club Chowk Lahore where young doctors and nurses were demonstrating from last five days.

The police ordered doctors to vacate the place and in a scant period of time, the operation was completed without much hassle. Residents of the area took a sigh of relief after the operation as the demonstration had earlier disrupted their routine life.

The YDA had been protesting since Tuesday, demanding the restoration of all sacked doctors of the Mayo hospital whereas Medical Superintendent Mayo Hospital confirmed that fresh doctors and nurses had been hired to facilitate the masses.
