LAHORE – It is common knowledge that the police force in Pakistan, especially in Punjab, is the biggest violator of the citizens’ right to inviolability of the dignity of person, the only fundamental right (Article 14-A) that has been inscribed in absolute terms, that is not subject to law.
Enjoying notoriety for being corrupt and abusive, policemen also protect their blue-eyed victimize innocent people.
A recent incident of police high-handedness has shocked the capital city of Punjab, where a man thrashes his wife inside a police station of Lahore, in the presence of her children and policemen.
The video, leaked on social media, shows a woman along with her children staging protest outside Begum Kot police sector. While the cops on duty stand as silent spectator, her husband, who reportedly had divorced her, drags the woman inside the building for making hue and cry.
In another scene, the video reveals the woman begging the police to take action against her husband who reportedly subjected her to torture and later on kicked her out of home.
A communication between an observer and a cop present inside the room can also be heard in the video, which indicate the man mistreated his wife with connivance of police officials, who allegedly took Rs0.4 million as bribe.
It is a common practice of police officials taking sides while solving family disputes after receiving heavy bribes.
Last year, police in Gujrat district registered a case against a seven-year-old boy for ‘kidnapping’ a 30-year-old man.
The minor was a grade one student at the Government Islamia School and had to take an exam that day.
In what could go down as a classic case of botched up police investigation, the pint-sized ‘convict’ was presented before a district and sessions court.
The child was, however, released later on, exposing the police performance in the most populous province of Pakistan.
The latest video, which is getting viral on social media, has greatly upset the public who are unable to understand the police behavior in sorting out family disputes. Many have called upon the police high-ups to take an action against the officials involved in patronizing the accused.
